Sarah Casto Joins the Ohio State University Libraries

We are happy to announce that Sarah Casto has accepted the Photograph and Paper Conservator position at the Ohio State University Libraries.

Sarah will be responsible for performing conservation treatments of photographic materials and works on paper in support of the stewardship of special collections. She will coordinate the preparation of rare and special collections materials for digitization, supervise staff and students and advise on workflows and best practices for the Conservation unit. Sarah will participate in the development of care and handling guidelines and their implementation through education and training opportunities for Libraries staff and faculty. She will also assist with the management of the conservation lab, including chemical and laboratory safety, as well as disaster planning and response.

Sarah comes to University Libraries from her role as an Assistant Conservator at the George Eastman Museum in Rochester, New York. She has also worked in conservation roles at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Better Image, the Smithsonian Institution Archives and Archives of American Art and Cleveland Museum of Art. She is a member of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works and the Midwest Regional Conservation Guild. Sarah holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in photography from Bowling Green State University and a Master of Arts and Certificate of Advanced Study in Art Conservation from SUNY Buffalo State College.
