Position: Head of Objects Conservation
Full time, Exempt, Benefits Eligible Position
ICA seeks a mid to senior level objects conservator to head its objects conservation laboratory, located in Cleveland’s near-west neighborhood of Ohio City overlooking Lake Erie. The conservator will examine and treat a wide variety of objects both at the ICA facility and off site; participate in implementation and oversight of projects which involve staff and subcontractors; manage departmental affairs, an assistant objects conservator, and several technicians; interact professionally with board members, ICA staff, clients, and the public; and agree to abide by current AIC standards. The Head of Objects Conservation will report to the Executive Director of ICA.
Past, current, and future conservation projects undertaken by the lab include works of art by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen, Sol LeWitt, Henry Moore, Philip Johnson, Maya Lin, Botero, Pablo Picasso, among others; rock and roll costumes worn by Lady Gaga, David Bowie, John Lennon, and other musicians; Hopewell copper artifacts; decorative arts works by Tiffany, Wedgwood, and industrial design artist Viktor Schreckengost; historic objects such as Vince Lombardi trophies; and an F5D Skylancer experimental jet aircraft flown by Neil Armstrong. ICA is looking for a candidate who will enjoy leading the lab through projects of a variety of types, scales, and scopes.
A Masters’ degree from a conservation training program or equivalent; significant experience in objects conservation; and supervisory experience are required. The salary is commensurate with experience; ICA offers an excellent benefits package. The position will remain open until filled.
