Shopping Districts
Kerrytown: This small, historic neighborhood is home to Zingerman’s Delicatessen, rare book sellers, tea shops, a day spa, the farmer’s market, and an excellent covered market called The Kerrytown Shops (407 N 5th Ave.). The latter houses – among other things – a great wine shop, Durham’s Tracklements (house-made smoked foods), spice merchants, a café, all kinds of gifts, and a great store for beautiful paper and bookbinding products, Hollanders. You want to go to there. Most shops open 10am to 6pm, Hollander’s is 11am-5pm on Sunday.
Main Street: The Main street corridor stretches roughly between Huron to the north and William to the south. It is full of places to buy art and gifts and high-end clothes. Two special places are Vault of Midnight (comics and games) and Crazy Wisdom (new-age everything, including an upstairs tea room).
Liberty & Washington: running between State and Main, these streets have something for everyone. On Washington, check out Babo for wine and fancy groceries, and Literati for books.CVS and Walgreens have locations on the east side of State St. just a block or two north of the Kelsey Museum, should you need analgesics or similar from too many conference papers.
