Past Annual Meetings – 2015

Lunch

$ = inexpensive
$$ = moderately priced
$$$ = spendy
All these places are within a 5 minute walk of the Kelsey, except for Frita Batidos and Zingerman’s Deli, which are 10 to 15 min. away by walking. If you’re vegetarian, there are usually good options at Amer’s Deli, Frita Batidos, Red Hawk, Sava’s, Silvio’s, and Taste of India Suvai.

Ali Baba’s ($). Casual, quick Middle Eastern food. 601 Packard St, (734) 998-0131.

Amer’s Deli ($). Soups, sandwiches, and salads in a bustling deli with plenty of seating. Order at the counter. 611 Church St, (734) 769-1210.

Ashley’s ($). A Kelsey Museum staff and student favorite. This dive-y bar has pub food, with cheap and decent lunch specials (ask if you don’t see these in your menu). Has a huge selection of draft beer and a good selection of single malt scotch. We recommend the stilton fries and the buffalo chicken wrap. 338 S State St, (734) 996-9191.

Frank’s ($). Another Kelsey favorite. A basic, old school diner, with breakfast dishes always available. 334 Maynard St, (734) 761-5699. Lunch only (closes at 3pm).

Frita Batidos ($). Casual, Cuban street food and tropical cocktails. Fast, fun, and delicious. Picnic table seating in a loud and bustling interior. 117 W Washington St, (734) 761-2882

Jerusalem Garden ($). Tasty Lebanese food, small café-like ambience. 314 E. Liberty St, (734) 995-5060

Red Hawk Bar & Grill ($$). Casual atmosphere and menu, but very good food and drinks. Nice ambience, with excellent and quick service. Good for dinner, too. 316 S State St, (734) 994-4004.

Sava’s ($$). Eclectic “new American” style cuisine. Nice outdoor terrace. Good for dinner, too. 216 S State St, (734) 623-2233.

Silvio’s ($$). Organic pizzeria run by a Sicilian family. Sells pizza by the slice or pie, along with sandwiches, pastries, good coffee, etc. The food is good, but the preparation is sloooow. Get something that’s already made, like a slice or two, if you’re in a hurry. Usually has great vegetarian and vegan selections. 715 N. University, (734 ) 214-6666.

Taste of India Suvai ($ to $$). No frills place with a good lunch buffet from 11am until 3pm. Great if you’re vegetarian. There are also one or two meat dishes at the end of the buffet.  217 S State St, (734) 327-6500.

Tianchu ($$). Small, family-operated Korean and Sichuan restaurant. Food is simple and good, service can be a bit slow, but we like it anyway. 613 E William St, (734) 769-1368.TK WU ($$). Good Chinese food, good service, can’t go wrong. 510 E Liberty St, (734) 747-6662.

Tomokun ($$). Insanely delicious noodles. Vegetarians beware – all of the broth uses meat or poultry. 505 East Liberty Street #200, (734) 995-8668.

Totoro ($$). Simple, basic, good Japanese food, including sushi. 215 S State St, (734) 302-3511

Zingerman’s Deli ($$). This beloved Ann Arbor institution is across from the town’s farmer’s market in the Kerrytown neighborhood. They make delicious, gigantic sandwiches. Next door you can buy pastries and ice cream. There can be a long wait on weekends, and seating is limited except in nice weather when the courtyard is pleasant. 422 Detroit St, (734) 663-3354.
