Cafés
Comet Coffee ($). The best coffee in Ann Arbor. It’s also the most expensive. Ambience is tiny coffee bar in Rome. 16 Nickels Arcade, (734) 222-0579
Crazy Wisdom Bookstore and Tea Room ($). The bookstore is New Age Everything, and upstairs tea room has tasty vegan and vegetarian treats. 114 South Main Street, (734) 665-2757
The Espresso Bar ($). Delicious coffee above Literati Bookstore. 204 S. Fourth Ave, (734) 707-1327
Espresso Royale ($). 324 S. State St, (734) 662-2770
Starbucks($). Inescapable. 222 S. State St, (734) 623-8067
Sweetwater’s Coffee and Tea ($). 604 E Liberty St, (734) 929-2398
Bars We Like
Alley Bar ($$). The best handmade cocktails in Ann Arbor. Do not go here for beer or wine. Also, there is no food to be had. Opens at 7 pm. There is no sign. Walking west on Liberty from Main, you’ll pass an alley painted with a mural of faces. The Alley Bar is the next door on the right. 112 W Liberty St, (734) 662-8757
Aut Bar ($$). A2’s only gay bar is in the historic Kerrytown neighborhood. It’s great in nice weather, when there is courtyard seating. Good burgers and drinks, but be forewarned - they don’t have draft beer. 315 Braun Ct, (734) 994-3677
Bill’s Beer Garden ($$). By night, the parking lot of Downtown Home and Garden transforms into a festive beer garden complete with fire pits and picnic table seating. Lots of fun. 218 S Ashley St, (734) 369-8001
Brew Pubs: ABC, Grizzly Peak, Jolly Pumpkin.
Jolly Pumpkin is the only one not described on our dinner restaurant list. The food is good. The interior is dark and fanciful steampunk. They make Belgian-style ales. 311 S Main St, (734) 913-2730
