Position Overview
The General Collections Conservator/Preservation Coordinator has primary responsibility for general collections, but also directs the housing and cleaning projects for special collections. This position, under the direct supervision of the Head of Conservation Services, helps manage and undertake a range of mission-critical daily operations of the department including: evaluating damaged collections; making treatment decisions and performing conservation treatments on circulating collections materials; supervising, hiring, and training student assistants; and ordering conservation and archival supplies for Conservation Services and Kenneth Spencer Research Library. The General Collections Conservator/Preservation Coordinator will also participate in collections surveys, outreach, and emergency preparedness and response. Conservation Services staff follow the American Institute for Conservation’s Code of Ethics and Guidelines for Practice.

Job Description
80% Conservation/Collections Care:
Sort incoming materials for treatment, library binding, reformatting, and housing.
Hire train, supervise, and evaluate student employees.
Perform array of repair techniques on circulating collections, including recasing, rebacking, and rebinding; paper repair; pamphlet binding; encapsulation; and protective enclosure construction.
Coordinate cleaning and housing projects for special collections materials.
Perform quality control on student work and track in online library circulation system.
Work with branch library staff to resolve non-routine conservation issues.
Participate in special conservation projects.
20% Other Departmental Goals:
Track and order conservation laboratory supplies and archival supplies for Spencer Research Library.
Participate actively in emergency preparedness and response operations.
Coordinate environmental monitoring efforts for relative humidity, temperature, light, and pests.
Conduct, prepare, and participate in staff and public outreach and education efforts.
Participate in departmental meetings.
Record and report statistics.
Conduct collection surveys.
Prepare reports as necessary.
Other duties as assigned.
Advertised salary range: $41,299 - $61,947. Final determination commensurate with skills and experience
