Summer Undergrad Intern (2)

$15 per hour, 6-8 weeks, June-August 2022 (dates flexible) 

The Amon Carter Museum of American Art is pleased to offer a 6 – 8-week paid summer internships for at least two USA undergraduate students (or recently graduated) who are interested in the field of cultural heritage preservation and conservation. It is the aim of this internship program to promote diverse learning within the field of art conservation through offering paid internships and by encouraging individuals from underrepresented communities to apply. The internship will provide individuals an opportunity to explore the potential of a career in conservation or preservation. The outstanding collection of the Amon Carter Museum, comprising tens of thousands of photographs and works of art on paper, offering a unique learning experience for individuals seeking to gain experience in the field of cultural heritage. 

The interns will assist the conservation staff in a variety of activities including collection inventories, surveys, and re-housing, as well as day-to-day activities such as examination of works of art to be exhibited and documentation of their condition. The interns will work directly with Conservation and Collections Management staff. They will learn about art handling, housing materials and methods, as well as the history of artists’ materials and techniques and the identification of photographic and printing processes. If unfamiliar, the student will be introduced to the American Institute for Conservation’s Code of Ethics and Guidelines for Practice. 

This internship is open to currently enrolled undergraduate students, or recent graduates (within the last two years), with backgrounds in science, humanities, and/or art and art history.

Conservation Graduate School Summer Internship for Paper or Photography Conservation  

The Amon Carter Museum of American Art is seeking a conservation graduate school intern in the discipline of works on paper or photography for summer 2022.  The internship will run for 35 hours a week for 8 weeks from June to August (exact dates will be arranged).   Application Deadline is Monday, March 7, 2022 

The summer internship will provide the conservation graduate students with an opportunity to assist the conservation staff in a variety of activities and treatments, including working alongside pre-program interns. Some of the projects slated for completion include collection inventories, surveys, and re-housing, as well as object examination and treatment. The interns will work directly with Conservation and Collections Management staff.   

This internship is open to: Currently enrolled conservation graduate students, or equivalent experience.

Post-Graduate Fellowship in Paper Conservation 

Amon Carter Museum of American Art 

The Amon Carter Museum of American Art is accepting applications for a two-year fellowship in paper conservation, starting Fall of 2022.  The closing date for submission of applications is March 7, 2022. 

The two-year advanced training fellowship in the conservation of works on paper will report to the Senior Conservator of Works on Paper, and participate in all departmental activities including examination, documentation, analysis, and treatment on the Amon Carter Museums extensive collection of art on paper and will contribute significantly to the institutions program of exhibitions. In addition, the Fellow will conduct research on the collection and is expected to produce a formal paper before the end of the appointment based on research completed during the fellowship.

The Fellowship will provide excellent hands-on treatment experience and practice in conservation management for the museum’s collection. By participating in all the departmental activities, the Fellow will gain professional experience in the conservation of works on paper while commencing a conservation career.

The Fellowship provides a competitive salary and benefits package including a biweekly salary based on compensation of $40,000 annually, with an additional allowance for travel and research of $4,000, plus full-time benefits. Some reimbursement of moving costs is available.
